Organized by The Saison Foundation and Performing Arts Meeting in Yokohama 2021 Executive Committee

AIR is a program that aims to discuss the roles and new potentials for Artists in Residence (AIR) for performing arts.

In Japan, artist residence programs play the role of supporting artists' creation and encourages the interaction and activities of the artists with local people. This is because local governments played a big role in launching AiR and affirming it as an example of regional development.

On the other hand, for artists, what does the word "region" mean? Why do artists move to certain regions to do their creation work there? And what kind of locality is generated in the region?

In the Performing Arts AiR Meeting 2021, we will introduce the activities of residential artists who are involved in performing arts in Japan, and discuss the situation and purpose of major AiR programs as a local space in a globalized modern world.
