The Fog

There is a vast world out there
with endlessly expanding dimensions which refuse to be one
giving rise to a misty fog that blankets everything.

In a world one cannot see through
my body is urged to move.
The looming sounds of footsteps.
Out of this restricted space emerges my dance,
adrift in layers of haze,
wandering around like a fog
destined to vanish over time.

Ensemble Sonne

Ensemble Sonne is a Kobe-based theater company founded by Toshiko Oka, who studied dance at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Germany. The company’s performances inquire into our existence using the human body, which is something that is shared by all of us who live today. Through daily training based on methods taken from dance, the company continues to create unique and intricate works. It produces a new show every year, always holding its premiere in Kobe before touring to the Tokyo area and other cities.
