Southeast Asia has been of programming interest lately. If we want to understand Southeast Asia a little more, it would be helpful to discuss some of the pressures faced by practitioners. From a visible landscape of skyscrapers and malls, capitalism and consumerism appears to be the main ideology driving Southeast Asia. What is the place of art in this? Should art managers resist / collaborate with the situation? What should they resist? Religion also presides prominently in daily life, and the largest muslim population in a country is found in Southeast Asia. How does this create pressures for art practitioners? How do they navigate the pressures of religion and traditions while creating contemporary work?
