A poetic, transformative, and living ode to the diversity of oral forms — “La chorale de l’Encyclopédie de la parole” (The choir of the Encyclopedia of speech) will perform a repertory composed of documents from the sound corpus of the “l’Encyclopédie de la parole”. During the recital, the synchronic multiplication of the voice highlights the formal structures of the chosen extracts and creates a spoken, vocal ensemble. During TPAM, for the first time ever, a Japanese version of the choir will be created with the complicity of some of the actors of Seinendan, following a creative workshop.

L’Encyclopédie de la parole / Joris Lacoste

A collective project initiated in 2007 by Joris Lacoste with poets, actors, artists, ethnographers, musicians, curators, stage directors, dramaturges, choreographers and radio producers that is dedicated to amassing and indexing speech recordings of all phenomena attached to language such as rhythm, harmony, compression, emphasis, spacing, melody, repetition, residue, saturation, timbre etc., which constitutes the “Encyclopédie.” Starting from these recordings, the “Encyclopédie” creates listening sessions, sound installations, performances, conferences and a game that are produced and are presented during public performances.
