[Booth No.37]EDO Marionette Theatre Company YOUKIZA

Since Edo period (1635-) , more than 370 years, YOUKIZA has been performed Japanese traditional marionette. The current company leader is Magosaburou XII. These days performances of YOUKIZA are appreciated by all audience in the world. During long history, YOUKIZA plays various kinds of works, Japanese Classic - New Modern. In 2007, YOUKIZA was invited at opening event of Festival d’Avignon in France. 1956-: Designated by Tokyo Metropolitan Government as an important cultural asset. 1995-: Registered by National Government as Tangible Folk Cultural Properties.

We believe in a magic of theatre that transforms actors and objects into something very unique and stimulating giving the audience a freedom of imagination with a great pleasure. We use every possible mean, for example a form of straight play, object theatre and dance, to appeal to the audience’s senses and creativity directly through our original expressions and images. As a result, Theatre Moments’ productions have become open to everyone, containing both the arts and entertainment and a full of such magic moments.

THE KIO COMPANY has continued to produce and perform children's theater, striving to develop new forms of creativity. Kio’s original public and theater performances, while keeping their perspective on the present, can be fluid with chronology and space. The Company has recently turned its attention firmly to the international scene. The headquarters' building being completed in 1999, it has from 2000 been operating lending services of its hall facilities. From festivals supporting youth theater, to plays, dance, music, film and workshops: the Company endeavors through the performing arts to contribute to the enriching of citizens’ lives and the growth of an area's culture.
