Profile: SP examines fundamental structures of contemporary life, through the creation of performance events. Our performances are characteristically strange, blurring the line between public and private, scripted and spontaneous, performed and observed. We make pieces about education ("School for Salomes", in NYC), about purity ("The First of Many", in India), about taxonomy ("Worman", in Japan). Founded in NYC in 1999 by theater artist and critic Yelena Gluzman, SP found a new home in Tokyo, and a focus in working across cultures, finding ways to collaborate despite (to spite) language, gender, economy, and history.
