Profile: Incorporated as a Dance Company in 1992, Nomade~s has been active in the contemporary dance field under the tutelage of company leader KUMAGAI Noriko and IKEMIYA Nakao. Nomade~s claims to search for undiscovered methods of expression that fit our modern society. Nomade~s actively conducts performances, workshop and lectures in order to influence not only dancers but also other performers and artists in all facets of presentation. And Nomade~s is increasingly winning supporters with 66 performances in 26 cities all over the world.

Profile: A member of Dumb Type since 1996. Active in independent solo projects since 2000. His recent solo works, characterized by collaborations with sound/visual artists who uniquely combine the elements of light and sound, include “Di Que No Ves (Say You Don’t See)”(03), “D.D.D.”(04), and “Tablemind”(06). In the latest “Good Luck”(08) he worked with film sound designer David Vranken (Canne 07 Grand-Prix winning “Mogari no Mori” by Naomi Kawase). Also in other multimedia projects including “true ? a new sound, light and dance performance”(07) and Yubiawa Hotel’s “Exchange”(07) which will be touring around the world in 08.

Profile: In 2000, SUZUKI Yukio started dance group, ‘kingyo (goldfish)’. His way of producing dance pieces which do not use established way of body expression, maximizing dancers’ characters, get good review among Japanese contemporary world. In 2003, he got The Lab Award. In 2005 he performed in International Triennale of Contemporary Art, YOKOHAMA, and won him the Audience award in Toyota choreography award. In 2007, he provided the Tokyo city ballet company with the arrangement-of-a-dance work. And, he joined “ITI 3rd Asian Dance Conference”. Furthermore, he received the nomination in the “Kyoto performing-arts prize”.

Profile: Since its debut in 1994, international dance company, Leni-Basso, has been at the cutting edge of the contemporary dance scene in the exciting, multicultural city of Tokyo. Making its own contribution to the questioning and experimental spirit within the stream of contemporary dance worldwide, Leni-Basso, under the artistic direction of KITAMURA Akiko, continues to explore the potential of dance and its own discourses of communication. Their performances were chosen as the best performance of the year 2005 in Montreal. They will tour in Europe and Asia in 2008.

Profile: Tsuyoshi Shirai, former member of Kim Itoh + the Glorious Future, received the Prix d'Auteur de Conceil General de al Seine-Saint-Denis with his work “Living Room - the room of sand” in 2000. In 2006 he collaborated with famed Arditti String Quartet for John Cage’s “Apartment House 1776” In the same year, he was honored with the first prize of Toyota Choreography Award with “mass, slide, &.” His latest work “true” performed with Dumb Type members premiered in Japan and would tour to Asia and the US this year. This visual presentation focuses on his solo work “mass, slide, &."

Profile: ‘time and locus’ was founded by TAKANO Miwako in 2001. Through focusing on movement triggered by the impulses and senses of the living body, which are so difficult to grasp with words, and through a dance that freely floats from time and space, locus, form, TAKANO has been trying to explore and present a new world. In 2003, “fragment vol.4” was received honorable mentionat the Yokohama dance collection and got invitation to Osaka, Nagoya, Seoul, Tours. In 2004, “Tokumei Torippu” (anonymous trip) was received Audience Prize at the Toyota Choreography Award.

Profile: The Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media (YCAM) was established in November 2003 as a cultural-arts complex that accommodates a hall for stage performances, an exhibition space, a mini film theatre, and the Yamaguchi City Library. A platform for sharing computer- and IT-based media technology, YCAM hosts among others a variety of theatre and dance performances, art exhibitions, film screenings and workshops. YCAM distinguishes itself through being not only a venue for presentations of existing outstanding works, but also a studio in which new, original artworks are produced and unveiled in front of the public.

Profile: This new artist collective has flexible and varied styles of artwork creation. This collective keeps on developing new 'body movement language/expression' which fits our age. They focus on creating live artworks, which don't end on (small) computer monitors but develops in the “post-Internet age”. Mixing with visual images, installation, computing and dance etc. is no longer a special thing for them. It is a “default setting”.

Profile: COMPANY IZURU has been founded with the aim of investigating and interrogating “classical” art forms, from a distinctly Japanese perspective in such genres as theatre performance, dance, art, music, films, photography, fashion, and architecture. We propose an innovative theatre performance, integrating Japanese Noh performance and contemporary music. This unique approach aims to explore a new manner of theatrical expression and a possibility of the voice and sound, produced in fusion of contemporary Western music and traditional way of Noh singing.

Profile: HINOKIYA formed in Hakodate, Japan in 1998. The group’s performances feature shinobue flute and guitar melodies on top of the distinctive rhythms of Japanese taiko. They travel the world as "Traveling band". HINOKIYA has participated in a number of music festivals overseas, including in Croatia, Brazil, Greece, and more. Their compositions and arrangements are the product of research into Japanese music based on modern sensibility and global outlook.
